Use a high-pressure pump to press the pressure-transmitting fluid medium into a closed container, and the workpieces in the container are formed under the static pressure of the high-pressure fluid medium to become dense or bonded together. The isostatic pressing process can make the workpiece obtain uniform compressive stress in all directions. According to the processing temperature, it can be divided into cold isostatic pressing and hot isostatic pressing.

 

The typical process of cold isostatic pressing is to put the powder into an elastic soft cover (generally made of rubber or plastic), seal the soft cover and put it into a sealable container (cylinder), and the pressure of the liquid medium is uniform It acts on the sheath, and then transmits the pressure to the workpiece to realize isostatic pressing. The commonly used liquid medium is a mixed emulsion of water and oil or oil, so it is called "hydrostatic pressure" and "oil static pressure". Cold isostatic pressing is mostly used in powder metallurgy to obtain powder preforms. In the mid-1930s, cold isostatic pressing began to be used to press tungsten, molybdenum and ceramic products. Compared with mechanical pressing, due to the high pressure of cold isostatic pressing and the uniform force on the workpiece, it is especially suitable for pressing large-sized powder products. The pressed powder product has the advantages of high density and uniform density, and the pressed powder does not need to add lubricants. The working pressure of the commonly used cold isostatic press can be as high as 6500kgf/cm2. According to the different sealing structure of the container, the cold isostatic press can be divided into two types: screw type and frame type. The screw-type cold isostatic press is simple in structure, but the operation is labor-intensive, and the thread wears seriously during use. It is usually an isostatic press with a small container (cylinder body); the frame-type cold isostatic press is complicated in equipment, but it is safe. Reliable, easy to operate, usually a press with a larger container (cylinder).

 

Cold isostatic pressing can be divided into dry bag molding and wet bag molding according to different powder loading methods. The fundamental difference between the two is: the formed rubber bag pressed by the dry bag mold is not soaked in the liquid medium, after the pressing is completed, the briquette and the formed mold bag are taken out, while the pressurized rubber bag remains in the container for the next filling; The mold bag pressed by the bag mold has a long service life and high production efficiency, and is suitable for single-piece continuous production. Wet bag molding is a commonly used pressing process. After loading, the mold bag is placed in a container and soaked in a liquid medium. After pressing, the mold bag and blank are taken out at the same time. This process can simultaneously press pressed parts of various shapes, but it takes a long time to demould.
